Third Grill - entrance
General Description
Today we are treating ourselves! We decided to dine at somewhere a bit different than usual.
Welcome to Third Grill! This small bar and grill is a little off the main road but offers a unique experience. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner, but today we're visiting for dinner.
It's always cool to visit one-off places instead of chains, so I'm really excited to try it out!
It is located near Edogawabashi station on the Oedo subway line.
It's not big, and not alongside a big street.
It is not easy to notice this place if you are walking without purpose.
When we visited, we hadn't made any reservations and the staff told us that all of the table seats were reserved for that night already.
Fortunately, the counter seats were still available and we could still enter the restaurant.
There were several people chatting a bit loudly and it seemed like they were regular customers as they were talking friendly with the restaurant's staff.
It is kind of a hideout spot for adults.
What we ordered
I ordered the bolognese pasta. It's served al dente, which I like. It has a black pepper taste. The meat is quiet tender and tasty. The sauce kinda tastes like pizza sauce. The cheese has a nice sharp taste.
The portions are a bit small, but oh well. It doesn't completely fill me up but is satisfying enough.
I usually don't order pasta at restaurants in Japan as I don't expect any good things there. But this is now added to my "exception list!"
The sauce and cheese are at a good balance and well match each other. The noodles are boiled to a good condition.
Here's Yue's order.
The steak is sooo tender, even the fat is nice! I don't usually like the fat on meat, but this is delicious. It has a charred pepper taste. It goes well with the bitter sweet sauce. The steak comes on the rare side.
I'm not a fan of the fatty part of meats. I usually cut and leave it on the plate when I eat steak.
But this one is also added to my "exception list!" (again!)
It is very soft and not oily. Even the fat part tastes very good and it adds a good accent to the whole dish.
The sauce is a bit sweet for me, but there are other basic seasonings on the table as well. You can even enjoy the meat without any seasoning.
Garlic bread! It's tasty, but it's hard to go wrong with garlic bread. It's crunchy but soft and filled with a garlic butter flavour.
Well, garlic bread is always tasty.
And this is not an exception!
We each ordered a drink. I quite like the cider I ordered! It's sweet and fizzy - perfect for me!
Yue's ginger ale is nice but has a bit of a kick to it. It's a little too spicy for me. If you like spicy drinks, you'll probably like this.
I forgot to note the prices for the drinks. Oops! I think they are around 300 JPY.
The ginger ale I ordered was very bitter and spicy as Rue mentioned.
This is the real ginger ale taste, which it is supposed to be.
Oh well I also love Canada Dry though.

The customer service is normal. Some other customers talked with the staff during the night. Our order came in about 25 minutes. - Atmosphere
-
I don't usually use this phrase, but the place has nice vibes. There is a chill, local feel which is quite cozy. There's lo-fi music playing quietly. The lighting is somewhat dim, giving the restaurant a fancy feel, but is still bright enough to see.It wasn't rowdy when we went so the customer level is fine. As the night went on, it seems like some regulars came by. Being a small restaurant, there aren't many seats.
Although there is an open kitchen by the bar, there wasn't a super strong smell when we came in. As our order was being prepared, the spicy, juicy meat smell became stronger.

Everything we ordered was delicious but on the small side. The lack of a proper menu can make it a bit hard to decide as there are no pictures or descriptions. - Overall
-
The food and atmosphere is really nice. However, it is a bit on the expensive side, especially since the portions are quite small. One dish will probably not fill you up. As a bar, it's a decent option for drinking. It seems there are some all-you-can-drink courses available. As a non-chain restaurant, you can expect to get a unique meal. - Would I come again?

I don't think I'd be a regular here, but I'd come here for special occasions. It's more worthwhile if you want to order a main dish with your drinks, rather than just side dishes. The food is good and it'll make a good memory.
